This quote builds on what most of us already know to be true. It’s the tough times that build and reflect our character. So even though it’s hard to be thankful for those rough waters, in the end our light shines through for others to see. You are like the Lighthouse beacon. Perhaps others will look at you and say, “If they can do it, so can I.”

And when we are not in rough waters, we should be preparing our physical and mental bodies for them, so that when they come, we are ready!! 🙂 I'm not having rough waters at the moment, so I'm in prep mode.

Sometimes you feel like all you have is rough waters. At least that is where we have been. The good part is when you spend your time in the rough waters you learn how to weather the storm. You have no chance of leading through the rough waters if you have never experienced them.
I agree with Jon in that we need the experience that rough waters can provide in order to learn how to endure and move on.
If only that wisdom would be top of mind when the waters ARE rough. Or else we can hope our memories are that good!

Besides, calm water always reminds me of that last scene in "Friday the 13th."

I went through a very tough time a few years back and I can assure you that I'd rather be a captain in a calm sea.
