Halloween & The Moon

By

Since it’s Halloween time I thought I would bring up the subject of the moon. Yes. That’s what I said. The Moon. Do you pay attention to the phases of the moon? Some people say the ‘crazies’ come out with a ‘full moon’. I guess Halloween got me thinking about it. Werewolves and Halloween kind of go together, and werewolves and the full moon go together… you get the idea.

Have you ever heard the ‘once in a blue moon’ phrase, meaning whatever event it is you are referring to does not happen very often? Yes. There is really a blue moon marked on calendars that indicate the phases of the moon. I have one. I had no idea why I had a blue moon on my calendar until someone I work with sent me an explanation of it.

Can you profit from the phases of the moon? Well some say you can by planting crops or vegetable gardens according to the phase of moon. I can remember when I was younger waiting to plant potatoes until the moon phase was right for it. Seriously… It was a very long time ago so I don’t remember the details or I would share them with you. The point is that you get a better harvest.

There are people who fish and hunt by phases of the moon. If you know what phase the moon is at during any given point in the day, you can decide when is the best time to go fishing or hunting and actually come back with something to show for the effort. Those who fish and hunt this way appear to swear by it, or so I have read.

I wish I understood all I knew or have heard about the moon. Then I could attempt to separate fact from fiction. All fiction about the moon does appear to be based on some little nugget of fact. It’s a bit like ‘old wives tales’. At some point they were based on fact, and then the tale just took on a life of its own and the original fact got lost in the tale.

So what do you think? Is there any actual fact associated with the phases of the moon? Do the ‘crazies’ come out during a full moon, or is that just coincidence? Do plants and animals respond differently based on the phase of the moon? Remember: Halloween is ‘be kind to werewolves’ day! (wink)

Ah, the full moon affect. In my former life, my managers and I would keep a full moon calendar on our desktops. Why, do you ask? Well, about 3 or so days before and after a full moon weird things would happen, or I should say people did weird things. It happened every time so it was a way to prepared for weirdness in our staff and our customers. :-)))

Ah hah! Maybe there is something to it then. LOL

I find it funny when people are smug enough to poo-poo the theory of the effect the phases of the moon have on us. Yet, they're willing to play Lotto every week. Go figure.

      Good point!

Perhaps i should follow the phases of the moon in order to land a job

    • Geek Girl says:

Well now there is your job – telling people how to land a job by the phase of the moon. (wink) Hope you find something soon. 🙂

BTW I found you through the Linkedin bloggers group

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate it.

  5. There is DEFINITELY something to the energy that happens when there is a full moon. I've had cats for years, and they always tend to be more restless when there is a full moon. Almost like the wild is calling …

And if you follow any astrologers, they always mention the crazy behaviour that tends to come out when there is a full moon. If you have a full moon on Halloween … look out!

Interesting observation! Full moon on Halloween… that can't be good.

Interesting thought… the one thing I'm assured of is we now underplay the importance of natural cycles because we think we've mastered nature. All it takes is one event (like Hurricane Sandy) to remind us that nature could wipe us out at any moment, and we should pay closer attention to its interaction in our lives. We should start planning our posts around moon cycles 🙂

Mother Nature has a tendency to send us reminders whenever we get too big for our britches. Yeah, I am not sure that is a word either. 🙂 Posting by the phase of the moon? Not sure about that one. Would be a good test though…

I will tell you one thing about the moon that is completely true and I did not believe it at first. The emergency department will have all kinds of strange personas and be a little busier that night in general. I did not believe it until I worked there. Interesting post!

This is not the first time I have heard of that happening. There must be something to it. 🙂
