Walking Shoes

By

Shoes So I have this really nice pair of walking shoes / tennis shoes / or whatever you want to call them. One of the reasons I purchased them is to encourage myself to actually walk. Recently I have become far too sedentary. In an effort to change that I even changed my work style to help encourage me to actually move around during the work day. I work from home so I have the freedom to make changes. I now use standing desks instead of sitting desks.

Right, back to the shoes. Today I did it. I actually put on those shoes and went for a walk! Yes. You heard me right. It was not an enormously long walk, but a brisk 20 minutes was not bad for the first time. The shoes were wonderful! I had my iPod Shuffle and did a little bouncy walky kinda thing to the music. There were not many people around to see it, but I am sure those who were had to be wondering what kind of strange person I was walking like that.

Now I just need to find a way of making this in to a habit. I enjoy walking when I do it. I just need to make an effort to take the time and do it regularly. Even 20 minutes a day like today would be an improvement. Maybe I can establish this habit before the winter weather season hits. If it’s already a habit, I am more likely to do it even if the weather is not the greatest.

My goal to make sure that these shoes get broken in really well. 🙂 Yes, Bethany. It’s another goal!

Do you have special shoes for walking or running or whatever activity you do? Do they stay in the closet or do you actually put them to use?

My walking shoes get used regularly. I am addicted to exercise; just love the way I feel all the rest of the day after a workout whether it's a walk, or free weights, or cardio routine. I usually replace the insoles at the end of year one and then the shoes are ready to – talk their own walk – year two so that is when I start all over again.

I had forgotten how good it feels after taking a walk. I am not addicted to exercise, but I can certainly understand it. 🙂

Nice shoes Cheryl! As it is spring here I have started walking along the beach each morning. It is funny once you started it can quickly get into a good habit.

    • Geek Girl says:

So it is Spring where you are! Where is that? I am hoping to make this whole walking thing a habit. I know it's good for me. 🙂

I live in Sydney Australia and Sure you will get into the habit.

        • Geek Girl says:

Wow… I did not realize. I have another blogger that I follow who is also from Australia. Cool… 🙂

One of the benefits of the web is we can connect from across the world. Have a great weekend Cheryl.

Aha! Another goal and an EXCELLENT one at that!!
I'm so excited you are working on this one.
I've been contemplating recording motivational stuff for people to walk or run to. Maybe you would like that one too, huh?!
Now–change your thinking. Don't think about how much work or effort or motivation it takes to get you to walk. Instead, make walking work for YOU. Do this by thinking about all the benefits you get from it and how it helps you enjoy the day yadayadayada. 🙂
I'm doing this with my eating habits (which I hope to write about this weekend).
Yes, make this a habit before winter!!! Woo hoo! Walk on Cheryl girlfriend girl!!
And, sorry I was late to this party.

    • Geek Girl says:

I thought you might relate to this goal. Telling myself all the benefits of walking does not really do it for me. I have to change my thinking by telling myself how much I WANT to walk. Hey and no fair stealing my shtick – LOL

Promise me you won't wear a visor, ha, ha. Good going! Walking is one of the best forms of exercise and I believe it. Then again, it's my main form of transportation.

    • Geek Girl says:

Once upon a time I lived in a city where I walked & took the train everywhere I went. I was in good shape then. Now I need to walk because I rarely do anymore. Changing that now…

      • namirusso says:

Change is always good. No matter how much it hurts.

        • Geek Girl says:

Yes. And I promise I will not wear a visor.
