Per Sumit Dagar’s web site:

The motivation behind the project is to take a giant leap in designing for visually impaired users who are still using retrofitted, inefficient and overpriced products. This device will provide an innovative platform that will enable an altogether new dimension of communicating with the users.

Braille Phone is a phone for Blind users. Its primary medium of communication is a haptic touch screen that allows users to “feel” the information on the screen. Using height mapping, the device will be able to project information ranging from textual (Braille), images, and animations and videos.

Per Damn Geeky:

The prototype version of ‘Braille Phone’ is currently being tested at LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad and collaboration with IIT Delhi is being sorted out to develop it even further. This intuitive project is a part of the Young Laureates Programme by Rolex Awards which funds 5 projects each year.

I am anxious to see this type of innovation advance. Technology helping people to be as independent as they possibly can be.

What do you think? Is there a market for this type of innovation? Will it succeed if it comes to market?

That is very cool indeed. Any advance that helps equal the playing field between people of varying abilities will find its place in the market.
