The Ultimate Geek Couple

The Ultimate Geek Couple

UPDATE:

I thought it would be fun to bring this post back to life and update you on our current inventory of tech. If nothing else, this post will remind you just what kind of ‘geek couple’ we are. 🙂

I now have an iMac which I love! I no longer have the Air because I replaced it with the iMac. No regrets. I still have my iPod Shuffle and I still love it. My iPad is the now mini and I still love that. My Droid X phone has been replaced with the iPhone 5. It was simply a matter of my technology playing well together.

My husband is still trying every new tablet that comes out, no matter what it is. So by extension I am also trying them out. 🙂 He no longer has an iPhone, but rather a Droid instead. Yeah, we just reversed roles with the whole phone thing. He has also been spending considerable time with Windows 8 and metro.

We still use the Apple TV. As you know we recently cut the cable cord so the Apple TV & the Roku get a lot of use.

I have an old laptop that still has Windows XP. You are probably surprised by that. I have reasons for holding on to it.

So there you have it. Are you at all surprised? I doubt it. 🙂

When I say that my husband and I are like the ultimate geek couple I mean it. Our house is filled with computers, tablets, smart phones, and other cool gadgets and goodies.

While the ‘normal’ couple might have some mood music playing during dinner, we have tech Podcasts playing. Neither of us can be without Internet for ANY length of time or we go through separation anxiety. Seriously… Thank goodness for data on my phone!

For Christmas last year I got a ½ terabyte backup drive, tiny little thing. Very Cool! What kind of girl gets excited about receiving a backup drive for a gift? Why ‘Geek Girl’ of course!

Between us we have bought and sold countless tablets just because we wanted to have ‘hands on’ experience with them. We have no NEED for them. We just WANTED them. After all we could get in to a conversation with someone who has one of those tablets and we need to be able to speak intelligently and with first-hand knowledge so as not to appear ignorant, right?

My current inventory includes a MacBook Air, an iPad, an iPod Shuffle, and a Windows 7 pc. I use all the computing stuff to do my blogging. I have the mobile blog app on my phone as well. Previously I had the MacBook Pro but when the little Air came out I HAD to have it! I bought the iPad thinking I would decide whether to keep one or the other – iPad or MacBook Air. Yeah, well I kept both! There are things that I can do on one or the other but not both. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

My day job requires me to use Windows machines exclusively. Bummer… Both my husband and I grew up with Windows machines, or should I say DOS and then Windows. Yeah, we are old as dirt. We are smart, though, so we both use Macs for personal use. My husband uses Macs for both work and play because he owns his own business so he can dictate what he uses. So jealous…

So when either of us finds an app or a service that we think is really cool we share it with the other. We LOVE being the first adopters of any new technology, gadget or service.

When we go grocery shopping we take tech podcasts for the car, and we use our phones for our shopping lists.

So I have a Droid X smart phone now. I plan to switch to an iPhone next time. Why? Because everything will synch and play well together whereas now it’s all a lot of work. The photos I take on my Droid, for example, I have to export via PicSay or they are so huge it’s just ridiculous. Then I import them from email and edit/compress them for web use. It will be nice to have my iPad, my Air, and my iPhone all working together in harmony.

My husband already has an iPhone, a MacMini, an iPad, and an Apple TV that play well together. Me? Jealous? Well yeah…

So what do you think? Are we the ultimate geek couple or what?

Ok, Just found your new site by accident. Not really, I just did a search to see if you would pop up and there you were. Way to go girl. I love the image and your site is really looking great. I am looking forward to more. :-), Me

  2. Hmm – fairly geeky indeed. We are too – and our regular list management system has just gone belly up – what is your favourite way of sharing grocery lists with your dh?

Wow! this would be a cool site if I were into all this electronics. I don't even own a cell phone.
But I do love my HD TV and Blu-ray player. I still use a desktop computer that I've had for probably more than 10 years now and still works great. I'm more into watching geeky movies.

Wow, I think you definitely qualify as geeks… but thanks to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, that is now the COOL thing!!!! I've always been anti-Apple until the last couple of years and now we're almost purely apple… besides my day job computer!

OK, I admit it, you do have me beat. My husband relay on me to be the geeky person (not that I am) in our home… LOL.

It's good to be geeks! My husband and I go the rounds over Apple vs Windows products, and since I'm not supposed to disparage his Surface and the company that feeds and clothes us, I won't say anything at all… 😉

  7. I have been considering adding an Apple TV into our line up. We have the Xbox as our main source but we need something downstairs. How does the apple compare to roku?

It's really fun to out geek one another – sounds like it anyway. My husband and I aren't really geeks by definition, but we love sharing technology finds with each other.

Hmm – I've been wanting a Macbook Air, although I don't really NEED one, per se. Any suggestions or advice in buying it used?

  10. Elizabeth Scott says:

I wish I could be a geek too…. I will have to live vicariously through your techiness.

I just bought a Macbook Air to bring along when I travel and I love it. It's not much heavier than an iPad and I feel it's more functional and fits my needs. I, too, have an iMac and and iPhone 5 (bought the first day) so everything will sync. I will say that I'm disappointed with the battery life of the iPhone so I bought a Mophie external battery case and it's comforting to know I have that backup. With the exception of recently purchasing a smart TV that's the extent of my technology prowess!
