Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Everyone!

New year. New blog. I still have the old one. It’s not going anywhere. This new blog has a very different purpose than that of Geek Girl USA.

The idea for this blog came to me when I first found out I was going to be a grandmother. My mind went in to overdrive and the idea for this blog was the result. Then I began researching grandmother blogs. Yes. They exist, but not in anywhere near the numbers that mommy blogs currently enjoy. So I thought to myself, this is a viable idea and I am going to do it. OK I was going to do it anyway just because I wanted to.

I bought the domain, installed an appropriate theme, and voila! Grandmother Diaries made it’s debut. My hope is to have this blog become a resource for grandparents like myself. Yes. There will be fun stories of adventures with the grandchildren. What’s a grandmother blog without laughter? Who knows? Maybe my photography skills will get better. They certainly can’t get any worse. Hey – I never claimed to be a photographer.

I would very much like all you grandparents out there to contribute to this blog. Maybe a cute recipe like the one Susan Cooper gave us with the chocolate mice. Perhaps you would like to provide a review of a children’s book along with a giveaway. Calling all DIY people – I am sure you must have crafts that children would enjoy making. How about those of you who have travelled with grandchildren? Any good tips to pass along? You get the idea…

As you can probably already see I am still getting things up and running. Be patient with me and hang in there. It will be great in no time at all. I am still setting up social links, but you can follow Grandmother Diaries via the subscribe by email link at the upper right side of the page.

Until next time…

Great idea! Are you a "new" grandmother? I am a Great-Grandmother – by default ;o) – My husband already had 5 children when I married him 13 years ago, who had kids, that now have kids….

Wow… that's wonderful! I am a new grandmother as of May 2013. I have the ultrasound photos. Very cool… I am so looking forward to this new phase of my life. Happy New Year!

Darn it. This sounds like an awesome group, but I'll have to wait on the sidelines.
I'm almost 58 and I'm NOT YET a grandmother. And I really really want to participate!
I've been saving my kids old craft stuff so I can teach my grandchildren about polymer clays. I've got drawers of awesome colored pencils, but NO GRANDKIDS YET!!!

My daughter is the oldest and she is 23 and refuses to get married till she's at least 25. I've got to respect her – she certainly knows her mind lol!

I most definitely understand that waiting game. My son is 33 this year, the same year his first child is born. I am actually really glad he waited until he was more mature. If you would like to contribute to this blog, your secret is safe with me. 🙂

  3. I will be a grampa come April of this year (2013 I mean to say). Seems odd to me being a grand parent at only 40. I don't feel old enough for this yet.

Congratulations! We can enjoy being grandparents together. We need to change that whole 'old enough' thinking to we are young enough to enjoy our grandchildren. 🙂

When I saw the title of your blog I had one of those V-8 moments when you hit the side of your head with a realization <– I could've probably started this blog. But the REALization, is I don't have time to create a blog, but I have plenty of time to talk about my first grandchild, what grandma doesn't? I will be eager to read and share in the journey with the new grandmas to be. None of my girlfriends were grandparents when my I became grandma so I didn't have any 'gal pals' to share the overwhelming range of emotions I went through when he was born. Not just the joy of finally meeting him and holding and kissing him, but the emotional toll, I'm not sure all women go through, of facing the obvious fact "I'm getting older." I'm not that old (48 – tomorrow), and thank GOODNESS people act shocked when they find out I'm a grandma. (When he was born the nurse in the hospital asked if I was a "new auntie" I considered making her my new best friend). While I may be a little bit ahead of some of you in that my first grandchild has already arrived, I'm also in the same boat with a lot of you, as have 2 more grandchildren coming, one in June and another in July (two daughters pregnant).

Hey – there will be no 'old' grandmothers on this blog. We are all GRAND. I am quite certain that you have many stories to tell along with recommendations and advice. I look forward to all of it. 🙂
