“Unless you’re willing to have a go, fail miserably, and have another go, success won’t happen.”

By: Phillip Adams

I thought this quote was quite appropriate since we are starting a new year and making plans. It’s rather like the phrase, “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.” No one likes the idea of trying something and failing. But if you don’t try, you will never know if you could have succeeded.

It is in that same spirit that I started Grandmother Diaries. I hope you will check it out and become a subscriber. You do not need to be a grandparent to benefit from the blog. Grandmother Diaries will soon dispel the notion that grandmothers are ‘old’ people. This grandmother is anything but old, not to mention I am a Geek! πŸ™‚

An oldie but a goodie Cheryl and one thing i have found to help this situation is to ask what is the worst thing that can happen if you fail. Often the consequences are not that drastic.

    • Geek Girl says:

Very good point! What is the worst that can happen? πŸ™‚

  2. findingourwaynow says:

So very true, You have to be welling the take a risk or nothing will EVER happen. πŸ™‚

    • Geek Girl says:

      Absolutely! πŸ™‚

  3. Dan Meyers says:

Really great quote – not easy to do, but if we can take the risks even in the face of failure, we'll definitely learn… I'm sure we'll all learn a lot this year!

    • Geek Girl says:

I think we are all going to learn a lot this year with all the changes we are attempting to make. πŸ™‚

  4. JeriWB says:

We learn so much when we fail, it just takes a little longer at time to dust ourselves off and get back in the game πŸ˜‰

    • Geek Girl says:

Sometimes the lessons we learn are more valuable than what we are attempting to do when we fail. πŸ™‚

  5. True – unfortunately:-)

Like Susan, I always ask myself what's the worst that can happen if I fail. Have never yet come up with the answer prison:-) That definitely would have stopped me from trying;-)) Just joking..

    • Geek Girl says:

OK Prison would be worse than what I would consider acceptable. However, anything I would want to try would not have prison as the worst that could happen. LOL

  6. namirusso says:

Ironically, I failed at failing on purpose – I think I was happy about it but for the most part, it was confusing.

  7. Geek Girl says:

You failed at failing on purpose? Is that some kind of double negative? LOL

  8. If you can't learn by your failures, you may as well give up right now. Hard to do ,impossible not to. Thanks for the reminder Cherryl.

    • Geek Girl says:

I guess the challenge is in taking the risk to fail in the first place. πŸ™‚
