There are many things we love in this world and our grandchildren are right there at the top of the list. Although spending time with them making cookies warms our hearts, an even greater reward can come from encouraging our grandchildren to get lots of exercise and to develop skills in childhood that will help them grow into successful adults. Just as we care for our roses in the garden, we can help our grandchildren grow and blossom into the healthy people we know they can be. Check out TheLittleGym.com Fun Activities and ask yourself which of these activities would get your grandchildren jumping with smiling faces.

Why a kid’s gym?

Taking our grandchildren to a gym has many benefits. First and foremost they have fun and make new friends. Certified professionals who have a genuine love and passion for children run these gyms, and it really shows in their work. When children engage in gym activities with members of their own peer group they learn teamwork and leadership skills. This will boost their self-confidence and, by extension, help them do better in school. Physical activities appear to be lacking in today’s young people. They spend so much time with tablet computers and things that don’t encourage exercise, that lack of exercise can become a health issue. Childhood obesity is on the rise, and involving your grandchild in gym activities will help to prevent them from becoming one of those statistics.

Developmental stages

Do you have a grandchild aged 3-6? You may think they are too young to benefit from a child’s gym, but you would be mistaken. Kids aren’t going to be tossing medicine balls at each other. A special program is created for kids in this age group that helps them move through the stages from a toddler to a child. The gymnastics program is designed to help little ones reach milestones in their developmental stages. Your grandchild may not be the next Nadia Comaneci or Nikolai Andrianov (or they may be, who knows), but gymnastics will help train their young minds to stay focused, follow through given tasks, and the have self-confidence that will help them through their first year of school and beyond.

In an article published by ‘Organic Gardening’, the author explores gym activities for children and makes an interesting point. The article reminds us that gym is being slashed from school budgets across the nation and that gym activities not only build healthier bodies in children, but also healthier minds. By involving your little ones in a gym class throughout their childhood, you will be making an investment that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Think it through

Do you have a grandchild aged 4 up to teens? If so, karate may be an option for them. It teaches kids how to stay disciplined. Karate also teaches children how to confidently avoid fights by “talking their way” out of a situation. As a last resort, children learn how to defend themselves causing the least amount of harm to another person. You will find that most kid’s gyms offer karate. It is another way to promote self-esteem, as well as other skills beneficial to your grandchildren.

Invest

You can buy stocks and bonds for your grandchildren and even set up a college fund for them. Why not consider giving them a children’s gym membership? This way you can see them benefit from it now. The way I see it spending time with your peers in a gym having fun really has no down side. It may even help them grow into the strong, confident, and successful people we all want our grandchildren to be.

I find it interesting that so many programs along these lines are popping up now. Gone are the days when a normal day was spent outside, because that is all you had.
