Golfing Anyone?

By

golf OK So I could not resist. It’s a golfing story, but not what you think. I had something else planned to post today and changed my mind so I could share this with you.

My husband and I went golfing. Not remarkable in itself. But when you consider that we have not been golfing for more than a year it is something to take note of. Last August was the last time I golfed. My shoulder had reached the point where I could not move without pain. Lifting a golf club was just out of the question.

To address the shoulder issue I recently had arthroscopic surgery. It was a success. Physical therapy is complete. The only thing left to do was to ‘try it out’. I started getting ready for a real game by swinging a club. My swing was a little rusty after all. My husband saw me swinging the club and got excited about golfing again.

So we took the plunge and decided to play 9 holes. I promised not to over do and take it easy for my first time out. Yeah right…. that is so not me. So how did it go you ask? For someone who has not played golf in over a year I held my own pretty well. Sure. Not every shot was a good shot, but I had some really excellent shots – some I could ‘write home about’ as they say. On at least 3 holes my drive was the best and furthest I have ever driven the ball on those holes. Woo Hoo!

I will never be a golf pro, but I now know that I can golf socially again if I choose to. The surgery and the physical therapy was all worth it. I realize that I have to keep up the work to maintain what I have gained back, but that is simply a part of a good health regimen anyway.

How about you? Have you been through anything like this? Do you have to manage your health in a particular way to manage your physical activities?

I am thrilled you are able to golf again… 🙂

As you know I am a gardener. In a rush to start a planned day in my garden I fell done the stars and severely broke my wrist. There was a very big concern that I would no regain my full writ action back because of the way it was broken. It was a horrific experience because it put me out of commission for 8 weeks with a cast up to my shoulder. Once the bone healed I started physical therapy to regain what wrist action I could. It was very painful at first but I happily regained the full use of my wrist. So what is the moral of my story? Don't run done the stars in your stocking feet… Duh!!!

Your ordeal makes mine look like a walk in the park. So glad everything is good again with your wrist. I must admit that the visual of you running down the stairs in your stocking feet and then…. made me laugh. 🙂 I'm bad I know….

Ok, apparently we are all injury-prone! However, I guess getting injured is like having a bad day… you don't know how sweet life is until you're down! So great to hear you're back to hitting the links!

I remember your guest post for Susan. 🙂 I also just received your new post and it looks like I will finally get the story behind the injury. 🙂

Honestly, I know EXACTLY how you feel. It took me over a year to run normally after my knee surgery. The day I noticed it was back to normal, I realized it had been back to normal for quite some time. The surgery was a success, yes – keep it that way!

So glad yours turned out well too!
