Alicia Keys: New Creative Director For Blackberry

Alicia Keys reunited with her former love. No, it’s not the kind of gossip that you think. In a Blackberry event last month, the Girl on Fire singer was introduced as the company’s new endorser. Blackberry tapped the singer to become its global creative director.

But why the 32-year old celebrity? It could be because Alicia Keys is the perfect endorser to any kind of people. She is almost everything that a brand would want to have on its wings. Alicia is a star, a wife, a mother, and a friend.

Blackberry, which has lost to leading brands such as Samsung and Apple when it comes to U.S. sales, may have just made the right move to get Alicia Keys’ services. According to the Boston Consulting Group, women consumers in the U.S. influence 73% of local purchase of smartphones. Alicia Keys, the good role model that she is, can serve as the inspiration for the women’s population. Smartphones have everything a woman wants. For moms, the phone can help them connect to their loved ones in an instant. They also use the gadget to play in sites like Cheekybingo after their long busy days. For singles, they use the phone for urgent meet ups or personal appointments. For celebrities, smartphones help them get closer to their fans through Twitter and other social media sites. Women want all of these features in one mobile computer.

There is no assurance that Blackberry will cruise to the no. 1 spot after Alicia Keys’ endorsement. After all, it is not the singer’s popularity that will carry the phone brand to the top; it is the brands high-end features. Blackberry is on track. The company has successfully flirted with Instagram in hopes to attract a greater market, especially teens and women. This feature, combined with the no-restriction BIS, makes the future look bright for the company and the consumers.

I very much agree with you. This may be a perfect match to help resurrect the brand. 🙂

Blackberry has been a great company in the past. I hope this helps save them.

I really love Alicia Keys and her preformance on the Super Bowl will help her come along way with people. I agree with Susan that this may be perfect for BlackBerry

Time will tell whether or not this move has an effect.

I've never used a Blackberry, but people who love them seem to really LOVE them. Hopefully the brand can stick around.

    • Geek Girl says:

I have never used one either. But as you say those that do love them.

  4. Presumably they will use Alicia Keys in ads and commercials?

Used to have a Blackberry when I lived in the Middle East and loved it. Not only did it enable me to surf the interrnet without censorship it also allowed me to surf wherever I was. Something tha that was unusual then but that everybody takes for granted today. Loved it when I was commuting between Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

By the way did you know, that the new Blackberry has been developed by Swedes? So it's a Swedish product for a Canadian company:-)

I knew it was a Canadian company but did not know it was a Swedish product. Interesting…
